HyLife Catwalk Extension

Connecting two large-diameter steel storage bins with an elevated structural steel catwalk requires more than simply designing a walkway between them. The challenge lies in understanding how the new structure interacts with the bins themselves, particularly the loads they can safely accommodate. Working collaboratively with the bin manufacturer, co-elevate established the available structural capacity and developed a catwalk design that respected these limitations while providing a functional connection between the two bins.
Our structural engineering scope included the design of the steel catwalk, evaluation of building code requirements for access and egress, and detailed engineering of the connections between the catwalk and the storage bins. By understanding the constraints early and designing around them, we developed a practical solution that integrated with the manufacturer's equipment. The project demonstrates how collaboration between engineers and equipment manufacturers can turn complex structural interfaces into coordinated, buildable solutions.
