STRATFORD LONG-TERM CARE HOME
STRATFORD, ON
peopleCare Communities’ Stratford Long-Term Care Home is a new five storey long-term care home located in Stratford, ON that adds 162,000 sq.ft., and 288 beds in the city. The new home focuses on providing a comfortable, efficient, and accessible environment for residents, with careful consideration given to both functional layout and operational needs.
From a structural standpoint, the building utilizes a concrete shear wall system for lateral load resistance, selected for its robustness, fire resistance, and suitability for mid-rise construction. The floor system is composed of precast hollowcore slabs supported by Deltabeams, steel beams, and steel HSS columns. This approach was chosen to maintain large floor-to-floor heights while minimizing structural depth, allowing for efficient integration of mechanical and electrical systems. The use of precast slabs reduces construction time on site, improves quality control, and aligns well with established construction practices and material availability within the province. The building sits on conventional pad and strip footings. The front building canopy is made of conventional steel frames, steel columns on conventional concrete piers and concrete footings.
